Each one is long, narrow and blade like, thick and almost leathery to the touch, with veins pressed so deeply into the surface that the leaf looks quilted. New growth emerges a light green and darkens with age to a deep green carrying a faint blue black sheen.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt stays compact and upright rather than sprawling, which makes it a plant to put somewhere you pass close by, a side table, a shelf or a desk, where the texture and the sheen can actually be seen. It sits beautifully next to softer, leafier things that set off those clean blade shapes.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch4\u003eCare at a glance\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLight:\u003c\/strong\u003e Bright and indirect. It will cope with medium light but grows more slowly, and direct sun will scorch the leaves.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWater:\u003c\/strong\u003e Keep the compost lightly and evenly moist, letting the top couple of centimetres dry first. Never let it stand in water, as alocasias rot easily with wet feet.
