Also known as Golden Pothos, Devil's Ivy (Epipremnum pinnatum 'Aureum', sometimes sold as Scindapsus) is one of the easiest and most rewarding houseplants around. Its glossy, heart shaped leaves are splashed and marbled with buttery gold, trailing or climbing with cheerful abandon.

Let it tumble from a shelf, train it up a moss pole for bigger leaves, or drape it along a mantel. Famously forgiving, it copes with a wide range of conditions, tolerates lower light and bounces back well from the odd missed watering, making it a brilliant first plant.

Care at a glance

Light: Bright, indirect light keeps the variegation strong. It tolerates lower light, though growth slows.
Water: Water when the top few centimetres of compost dry out. It would rather be a touch dry than soggy.
Humidity: Happy in average rooms, lusher in higher humidity.
Support: Trails happily, or climbs a moss pole for larger leaves.
Note: Best kept away from curious pets, as it can irritate if chewed.
