The Orchid Cactus (Epiphyllum 'Leon Herick') is a cultivated epiphytic jungle cactus grown for its elegant, trailing stems and spectacular, showy blooms. Unlike desert cacti, epiphyllums grow naturally on trees in humid forests, giving them a lush, cascading habit that looks wonderful spilling from a hanging pot or high shelf.

Given a bright spot and a little care, it rewards you with large, striking flowers. Its long, flattened stems make it a sculptural and unusual addition to any plant collection.

Care at a glance

Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun.
Water: Water when the top few centimetres of compost dry out. As a jungle cactus it likes a little more moisture than a desert cactus, but dislikes sitting wet.
Humidity: Appreciates average to higher humidity.
Note: Generally considered non toxic, but best kept out of reach of curious pets.
