Lipstick Plant | Aeschynanthus 'Mona Lisa'
Commonly known as the Lipstick Plant, Aeschynanthus ‘Mona Lisa’ is a trailing tropical plant loved for its glossy green leaves and vibrant tubular red blooms. Native to humid forests in Southeast Asia, it naturally grows as an epiphyte, cascading from trees in bright, filtered light.
Perfect in a hanging pot, or on a high shelf where its flowers can be admired as they spill over the sides.
Origin: Southeast Asia
Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun
Water: Allow the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and ensure good drainage
Tips to Promote Flowering:
• Provide bright, consistent indirect light — low light reduces blooming
• Keep your lipstick plant slightly root-bound to encourage flowering
• Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted balanced houseplant food
• Maintain warm temperatures 18–27°C
• Allow a slightly drier period in winter to encourage bud formation
• Avoid moving the plant once buds have formed, as this can cause bud drop
