Aeschynanthus 'Caroline' | Lipstick Plant
Light: Bright, indirect light is the single most important factor for flowering. The brighter the light it receives, the more freely it blooms. A spot near an east or west-facing window is ideal. Avoid harsh direct sun (which scorches leaves) and low-light positions (which produce foliage only, no flowers).
Water: Allow the top 2–3 inches of soil to dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly and allow to drain fully. Never leave the roots sitting in water.
Water more frequently in spring and summer and reduce in winter. Avoid using cold water during flowering, as it can cause bud drop. Always water at the base to keep foliage dry.
Native to: Tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, Borneo, Malaysia, Sumatra, and Thailand, where it grows epiphytically on tree branches in warm, humid forest canopies.
Special care tips: Thrives in humidity of 60%+, so a bathroom with good light works well. Whilst higher humidity produces more vigorous growth, Aeschynanthus can live happily in regular household humidity.
After flowering, trim stems back by a third to encourage bushy new growth and the next flush of blooms. Use an airy, fast-draining mix (coco coir, perlite, and orchid bark) rather than standard potting compost.
This 'Caroline' cultivar shares the same core care needs as all Aeschynanthus varieties, but the 'Improved' designation typically means more prolific and longer-lasting blooms
Non-toxic to pets and humans.
