Meet the Baby Burro's Tail, Sedum morganianum 'Burrito', one of the most charming trailing succulents you can grow. Its stems are densely packed with plump, rounded, blue green leaves, each one like a little bead or gummy drop, overlapping in a braided pattern that tumbles and spills over the edge of the pot. The effect is soft, sculptural and quietly mesmerising, a living rope of cool blue green that only gets better as it lengthens.

Grown in a hanging pot, it's made to trail, so hang it where the stems can cascade freely and catch the light, a bright window, a shelf, a corner that needs a bit of living movement. It asks for very little in return. Do handle it gently though, as the leaves are famously plump and brittle and drop at the slightest knock, which is part of its delicate charm.

Care at a glance

Light Bright light or bright partial shade. It loves a bright spot but keep it out of harsh, hot direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Water Let the compost dry out between drinks, then water thoroughly. Water more freely in spring and summer, sparingly in winter, and never let it sit in excess water as it will rot if overwatered.

Humidity Prefers dry air and good airflow. Keep it out of humid, steamy spots like bathrooms and kitchens.

Support No support needed, it's a natural trailer, but site it somewhere it won't get brushed past, as the leaves knock off easily.

Note Best kept away from curious pets and children, as the leaves are best not chewed.
