A bromeliad brings instant holiday colour to a room, and Guzmania 'Hope' is a beautiful example. A neat rosette of glossy, arching green leaves surrounds a tall, vivid bloom that stays bright for months. The colourful part is actually a cluster of bracts, which protect the tiny true flowers tucked inside.
In the wild, guzmanias grow perched in the branches of rainforest trees, so they're used to dappled light and gentle watering. Indoors, they're wonderfully low maintenance and look great on a coffee table, a bright shelf or a bathroom windowsill.
Care at a glance
Light: Bright, indirect light. Direct sun can fade the bloom and scorch the leaves.
Water: Keep a little water in the central cup, emptying and refreshing it every week or two, and lightly moisten the compost when it starts to dry. Rain or filtered water is ideal.
Humidity: Happy in average rooms and enjoys an occasional mist.
Good to know: Each rosette flowers once, then sends up pups at its base that you can grow on into new plants.
Pet note: Bromeliads are generally regarded as non toxic, but we'd still keep it out of nibbling reach.
Supplied in a plastic nursery pot. As a living plant, each one is unique and yours will have its own shape and bloom.
