With its long, wavy leaves splashed with dark green spots and deep purple undersides, the Rattlesnake Plant is a real looker. It gets its name from the leaf pattern (not because it bites, promise!) and is perfect for adding a bit of drama to your indoor jungle. Like most Calatheas, it’s a bit of a diva — but treat it right, and it’ll absolutely thrive.

Origin: Native to Brazil

Light: Loves bright, indirect light — too much direct sun can fade those gorgeous patterns. It’ll tolerate lower light, but might not be quite as vibrant.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Calatheas enjoy humidity, so a steamy bathroom or regular misting will help it flourish. Brown leaf edges? That’s a sign it’s craving more moisture in the air.

Good News: It’s non-toxic to pets and humans! So it’s safe to admire, even if your cat gets a little too interested.
