Never Never Plant (Ctenanthe burle-marxii)

Ctenanthe burle-marxii have showy and intricately patterned oval leaves with purple undersides.

A Marantaceae family plant. Calatheas and Marantas are also part of this family. Ctenanthe are generally more easy-going than their cousins the Calathea, which have a reputation for being a bit fussy. It's native to south-east Brazil.

Ctenanthe prefer indirect sunlight, but because it's an understorey plant it tolerates lower light levels too. Like other plants from its family, it often closes up its leaves at night.

Water weekly or when the top few cms of soil has dried out. As the light reduces in winter, watering less frequently will help prevent root rot. This plant grows likes moist soil. If the soil dries out the leaves can curl and go brown around the edges.

Pet safe. This plant is non-toxic.
