This one’s a real showstopper. With creamy, pale green leaves flecked with darker green and soft peachy-pink hues, the Shivereana is a rarer cultivar of the classic rubber plant — and it totally steals the show. It’s not just pretty though; it’s also relatively easy-going, making it a great pick if you’re looking to add a bit of colour and pattern without too much fuss.
Origin: Native to Southeast Asia, particularly India, Nepal and Indonesia
Light: Loves bright, indirect light. The more light it gets, the better the variegation will be — but avoid direct sun, which can scorch those beautiful leaves.
Water: Let the top few centimetres of soil dry out between waterings. Like most Ficus, it prefers a bit of a routine, so try not to over- or under-water. It can handle normal household humidity but will enjoy a light mist if your home’s a bit dry.
Caution: This plant is toxic to pets if ingested, so best kept out of reach of nibblers.
