Soft, fine and beautifully cascading, Hoya linearis is one of the prettiest trailing Hoyas around. Slender stems hang in curtains of narrow, downy green leaves, giving it a gentle, feathery look quite unlike its waxier cousins. In late summer it can reward you with clusters of small, scented, star shaped flowers.

It looks lovely spilling from a hanging pot or a high shelf where its trailing stems can fall freely. Daintier than most Hoyas but surprisingly easy going once you get its light and watering rhythm right.

Care at a glance

Light: Bright, indirect. Gentle morning sun is fine, but avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the fine leaves. Too little light means slow growth and fewer blooms.

Water: Let the top few centimetres of compost dry between waterings, and water a little less in winter. Wilting or soft leaves usually mean too dry, yellowing can mean too wet.

Humidity: Enjoys a little extra humidity and appreciates the occasional misting.

Feed: A dilute houseplant feed every few weeks through spring and summer.

Note: Generally considered pet tolerant, but best kept out of reach so the trailing stems are not nibbled.
