The Iron Cross Begonia (Begonia masoniana 'Mountain') is grown for its extraordinary leaves: bright apple green and deeply puckered, each stamped with a bold, chocolate brown cross at its centre.
The texture is remarkable, almost quilted, making it one of the most tactile and eye-catching foliage begonias around.
It brings real personality to a shelf or plant grouping and thrives with warmth, bright indirect light and a little extra humidity.
Care at a glance
Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun.
Water: Water when the top couple of centimetres dry out. Water at the base to keep the leaves dry, and avoid sogginess.
Humidity: Loves higher humidity, happiest above 50%
Note: Best kept away from curious pets, as begonias can cause an upset stomach if chewed.
