Oxalis ‘Mijke’ is a total show-off. With deep purple, shamrock-shaped leaves that open and close with the light, it brings a little drama to your windowsill (in a good way). When it’s feeling really happy, it’ll surprise you with delicate pale pink or white flowers. It’s low maintenance and a real mood-lifter — what’s not to love?
Origin: Native to South America, particularly Brazil
Light: Loves bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can fade the colour of the leaves, but too little and it won’t do its magical open-close trick as well. Somewhere near a bright window is perfect.
Water: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. It doesn’t like soggy roots, so make sure the pot has good drainage. This plant enjoys a little rest in winter — don’t panic if it dies back, it’s just taking a break and will pop back up in spring!
Caution: Oxalis is toxic if ingested by pets or humans, so best to keep it out of reach of curious paws and little ones.
Supplied in a plastic nursery pot.
Pots are sold separately.
