The Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum 'Sweet Chico') is an elegant, easy going houseplant with glossy, deep green leaves and pure white, sail like flower spathes that rise gracefully above the foliage. Calm and classic, it brings a soft, sculptural elegance to any room, and is well known as one of the best plants for freshening indoor air.

It is happy in lower light where many plants sulk, making it ideal for bathrooms, bedrooms and shadier corners. A helpful bonus: its leaves droop a little when thirsty and perk straight back up after a drink, so it tells you exactly when it needs watering.

Care at a glance

Light: Tolerates low to medium light. Bright, indirect light encourages more flowers. Avoid direct sun.
Water: Keep lightly moist. Water when the top couple of centimetres dry out, or when the leaves begin to droop.
Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity, so happy in a kitchen or bathroom and appreciates the odd misting.
Note: Best kept away from curious pets, as it can irritate the mouth if chewed.
