The Raindrop Peperomia (Peperomia polybotrya 'Raindrop') is loved for its thick, glossy, teardrop-shaped leaves in a deep, rich green, each one tapering to a fine point like a raindrop rolling down a window. Also known as the Coin Leaf Peperomia, it is a semi-succulent native to the rainforests of Colombia and Peru, and it is often mistaken for the Chinese Money Plant, though its pointed, heart-based leaves give it away. It grows in a neat, upright, clustered shape and stores water in those fleshy leaves, making it wonderfully forgiving.

Its compact, sculptural form is perfect for a desk, shelf or windowsill, bringing a shot of glossy green to a smaller space. An easy, characterful houseplant that thrives on a little benign neglect.

Care at a glance

Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Rotate it now and then for even growth.

Water: Let the top of the soil dry between waterings, then water thoroughly and drain well. The fleshy leaves store water, so it prefers slightly too dry over too wet.

Humidity: Happy in average room humidity, with a little extra welcome in very dry rooms.

Temperature: Keep it warm, ideally 18 to 27°C, and away from cold draughts.

Pet note: Considered non-toxic, so a good choice for homes with pets and children.
