Your plant might not be the exact plant pictured because all plants are different. It will match the size and description.

With its thick, woody trunk and canopy of large, scalloped, glossy dark green leaves, the Polyscias Fabian (Polyscias scutellaria 'Fabian') is a sculptural little indoor tree with real character. Often called the Dinner Plate Aralia or Shade Aralia, it is native to the Pacific Islands and grows in a compact, upright way, each plant unique as the rounded leaves emerge along the branches to expose different amounts of woody stem. The undersides carry a subtle purple tinge, adding to its quiet drama.

It brings height and structure to a plant collection, perfect for a bright corner where its tree-like form can be appreciated. Slow-growing and undemanding once settled, it rewards a steady, stable spot.

Care at a glance

Light: Bright, indirect light near an east or west-facing window. Avoid harsh midday sun.

Water: Water when the top few centimetres of soil have dried, easing back in winter. It prefers being slightly underwatered, as too much causes rapid leaf drop and root rot.

Humidity: Enjoys higher humidity, so a bright bathroom or kitchen suits it, or mist and use a pebble tray in drier rooms.

Temperature: Keep it in a stable, warm spot between 16 and 24°C, away from sudden changes and cold draughts.

Pet note: Best kept away from pets and children, as it can cause mild stomach upset if chewed.

Supplied in a 12cm nursery pot. As a living plant, size and form vary from one to the next, so yours will be one of a kind.
