The Amaretto Sour cocktail has a rich history dating back to the seventies – first introduced to the public in the US by the importer of Amaretto di Saronno (now known as Disaronno) during a resurgence of Italian spirits and liqueurs. It became a big hit in the 1980s, with variants being created by various bartenders, but the classic sweet and sour combination remains the undisputed favourite – a staple on all good cocktail menus.

Edmunds' Amaretto Sour is made with Disaronno Originale – an amber-coloured liqueur with a characteristic almond taste, although it does not actually contain almonds. It is produced in Saronno, in the Lombardy region, and sold worldwide. According to the company, the liqueur is an infusion of apricot kernel oil with "absolute alcohol, burnt sugar, and the pure essence of seventeen selected herbs and fruits". To complete the drink we add fresh lemon juice.
