The Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata 'Futura Superba', also known as Mother in Law's Tongue) is a compact, sculptural form with broad, upright, sword like leaves in silvery green, banded with darker green and edged in golden yellow. One of the toughest and most forgiving houseplants you can own, it thrives on neglect and copes with a wide range of light. Ideal for a bright corner, a hallway or a low maintenance spot that still needs a bit of drama.

Care at a glance

Light: Tolerates most light, from bright to fairly low. Brighter light keeps the colours strong.
Water: Water sparingly, letting the compost dry out fully between drinks. Water very little in winter, as it dislikes sitting wet.
Humidity: Average rooms are fine.
Note: Best kept away from curious pets, as it can cause an upset stomach if chewed.
