The White Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) is a magnificent, architectural houseplant with large, glossy, paddle shaped leaves held high on upright stems. Bold and tropical, it brings dramatic height and a lush, jungle like presence to a bright room, and given time and space, mature plants can produce striking white and blue, crane like flowers.

Give it a bright spot with a little gentle sun and room to spread, and it will reward you with impressive new leaves. A true statement plant for a sunny corner.

Care at a glance

Light: Bright light with a few hours of gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Avoid harsh midday sun.
Water: Water when the top few centimetres of compost dry out, easing off in winter. Avoid leaving it soggy.
Humidity: Enjoys average to higher humidity and the occasional leaf wipe.
Note: Best kept away from curious pets, as it can cause an upset stomach if chewed.
