Taramind | Tamarindus indica

With its airy, feathery leaves that fold up at night and sculptural shape, tamarind brings a little wild elegance to your windowsill.

Light: Tamarind loves bright light. Find the brightest spot you’ve got—think south-facing window or a conservatory. It won’t thrive in low light.

Water: Keep soil evenly moist in spring and summer. In winter, when growth slows, let the top layer dry before watering again. Always tip away excess water from the saucer, like most plants, it doesn’t like to keep its feet wet.

Soil: A free-draining mix is key—blend standard houseplant compost with sand or perlite to prevent soggy roots. Ask us for additives to your soil. We’ve got options in the shop.

Temperature: This is a heat-lover. Aim to keep it above 15°C. Protect from draughts and avoid placing near cold windows in winter. Similar to a calathea or alocasia.

Prune gently to shape (and to keep its size in check). A liquid feed every 4–6 weeks in the growing season will keep leaves lush.
