Meet 'Zipp', a compact and characterful cultivar of the Venus Flytrap, Dionaea muscipula. Its bright green traps are fringed with fine teeth and flushed deep red inside, and they close with the quick, satisfying snap that gives this variety its name. Native to the boggy wetlands of the Carolinas, the Venus Flytrap is one of the most recognisable carnivorous plants in the world, and 'Zipp' brings all of that interactive charm in a neat, collectable size.

It makes a brilliant windowsill curiosity and a genuine talking point, equally at home on a bright sill or in a sunny spot outdoors through the warmer months. Fascinating for plant lovers and curious kids alike, it earns its keep by catching the odd passing gnat or fly.

Care at a glance

Light: Full sun. The brighter, the better, so give it your sunniest windowsill or an outdoor spot in summer.

Water: Keep the soil consistently moist, never dry, sitting in a little rainwater or distilled water. Avoid tap water, which it dislikes.

Soil: Nutrient-poor, acidic growing medium. Never feed or fertilise it.

Dormancy: A temperate plant that dies back and rests over winter, returning with fresh traps in spring.

Note: Best kept out of reach of curious pets and small children, and let it catch its own food rather than triggering the traps for fun.

As a living plant, each one is unique, so trap size, colour and shape will vary a little from the photos. Yours will be one of a kind.
