Weeping Fig | Ficus benjamina 'Kinky' | compact variegated tree with creamy edged leaves
Meet the Weeping Fig, Ficus benjamina 'Kinky', a compact, dwarf form of one of the most loved houseplants around. Masses of small, slender, pointed leaves crowd its gently arching stems, each one washed with soft creamy and pale green variegation that catches the light. The overall effect is delicate and full, a softening, almost tree like silhouette that brings a quiet bit of the tropics into a room.
It has been gracing our homes since Victorian times and still looks completely at ease in a contemporary space. Set it where you want a bit of living softness, a bright corner, a shelf with room to arch, or a spot that needs a green focal point without taking over. Weeping figs like to settle, so once you find its happy place, try to leave it there rather than moving it around.
Care at a glance
Light Bright, indirect light. A little gentle morning or evening sun is fine, but keep it out of harsh direct rays.
Water When the top few centimetres of soil start to dry out, using tepid water. Avoid letting it dry out completely or sit wet.
Humidity Happy in average rooms, though it appreciates the odd misting and lusher conditions.
Position Keep it away from draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes, which can cause leaf drop. Steady and settled is the way to a happy fig.
Note Best kept away from curious pets, as the sap can irritate if chewed.
As a living plant, each one is a little different, so size, fullness and variegation will vary from plant to plant. Yours will be one of a kind.
